DECATUR – Ted Staples, supervisor of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Forensic Biology section, was recently appointed by the FBI as chairman of the Scientific Working Group on DNA Analysis Methods.

This group, which includes scientists from the United States and Canadian crime laboratories, is responsible for maintaining national DNA testing standards as well as for addressing current issues in the field of DNA. As chairman, Mr. Staples will also serve on the FBI’s National DNA Index System Procedures board.

GBI Director Vernon Keenan said, “Being appointed chairman of this group is a great honor not only for Ted but also for the entire GBI and the State of Georgia. Ted has distinguished himself as a national leader in the Forensic DNA field and we congratulate him on this well-deserved honor.”

Mr. Staples has been employed at the GBI since 1986.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia College in 1984 and a Master of Science degree from the University of Georgia in 1986. Mr. Staples also recently completed courses at Columbus State University’s Law Enforcement Command College and will receive a Masters Degree in Public Administration this May. Mr. Staples is a resident of Jackson, GA along with wife Kim, daughter, Haley and son, Kyle.
