ATLANTA, GA – Three Georgia Tech employees turned themselves in to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office this morning as result of arrest warrants obtained by the GBI in connection with an ongoing investigation into misappropriation of funds and resources from the school’s Georgia Electronic Design Center.

Joy Laskar, 47; Stephane Pinel, 36; and Chris Evans, 56 were each charged with violations of the Georgia RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act; {O.C.G.A. §16-14-4(a) and §16-14-4(b)}.

The GBI investigation was requested by Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker on April 16 after Georgia Tech’s Department of Internal Auditing uncovered evidence of the alleged misappropriations.  As part of the investigation, the GBI executed search warrants on May 17 that included 9 locations on the Georgia Tech campus as well as 2 residences.

The investigation into this matter by the GBI, the Georgia Attorney General’s Office and Georgia Tech is continuing.
