Adel, GA - The Cook County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI‘s assistance in the investigation of the death of Edward Gonzalez- Zavala, four months old.  The incident occurred on December 22, 2012 at a Pine Lane address in Cook County.

Zavala was pronounced dead on December 23, 2012 at a Macon hospital where he had been transferred from a local hospital in an attempt to provide him specialized care.  The investigation revealed Zavala’s biological mother, Guadalupe Gonzalez-Zavala, had moved away from Adel, Georgia.  Ms. Gonzalez-Zavala who had been living in Wimauma, Florida has been charged with Zavala’s death.  On Thursday, April 24, 2014 Gonzalez-Zavala was arrested in Adel and charged with one count of Felony Murder and one count of Second Degree Cruelty to Children.  Gonzalez-Zavala is being held in the Cook County Jail.
