GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Atlanta, GA
Atlanta, Georgia – On Monday, March 27, 2017, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested by the Atlanta Police Department (APD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.
Preliminary information provided by APD indicates that at approximately 4:30 a.m., APD officers responded to a 911 domestic incident call involving a weapon at 1999 Bent Creek Way, SW in Atlanta. The location is an apartment complex known as the Preserve at Bent Creek Apartments.
Upon arrival, APD officers encountered a male subject with a rifle who was shooting at a female. The female was later identified as the subject’s girlfriend. When confronted, the subject shot at the APD officers who returned fire. The subject ran through parts of the apartment complex while continuing to shoot at police. The subject was eventually shot by an APD officer. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for medical treatment, but his condition is unknown at this time. The female was also taken to Grady Memorial Hospital to receive treatment for a gunshot wound to her hand.
No officers were injured during this incident.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney's Office for review.
