GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Atlanta, GA
Atlanta, Georgia – On Thursday, April 6, 2017, the Fulton County Police Department (FCPD) requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to investigate an officer involved shooting in Atlanta, Georgia.
Preliminary information from Fulton County authorities indicates that at approximately 8:30 p.m., Fulton County officers responded to a 911 call in reference to a fight at Riverside Parc Apartments located at 1925 Waycrest Drive Atlanta, Georgia. Upon arrival, an FCPD officer encountered the aggressor of the fight. The subject ignored verbal commands and during the encounter an FCPD officer fired his weapon, striking the subject several times. The subject was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he is receiving medical treatment and is in critical condition.
The initial GBI investigation revealed that the subject did not live at the apartment complex and had attacked a resident of the apartment complex. The victim of the attack and the subject did not know one another.
The GBI is in the early stages of this investigation. When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
