Cobb County, Georgia – On Saturday, May 27, 2017, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested by the Cobb County Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting in Cobb County, GA.

Preliminary information from Cobb County authorities indicates that at approximately 2:24 a.m. an incident occurred at the Elegant Point Event Hall, 320 Riverside Parkway, Austell, GA.  A Cobb County PD officer responded to a fight in progress at the above location when he encountered a subject with a weapon.  The subject discharged the weapon multiple times.  The officer discharged his weapon fatally wounding the subject.  The subject was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  

No officers were injured during the incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident.  When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Cobb County District Attorney's Office for review.
