Leary, GA  – On Monday, September 18, 2017, at approximately 2:25 p.m., the GBI Sylvester Regional Office was requested by Calhoun County Chief Deputy David Mosely for assistance in a death investigation.  The request was made after Leary Police Chief LaKeisha Fleming responded to the residence at 3317 South Depot Street, Leary, for a welfare check on Alex Simmons, Jr.  During this check Simmons, age 77, was found deceased inside the residence.  

On Tuesday, October 31, 2017, Cortez Anderson, age 48, of Leary, GA was arrested and charged with felony murder and aggravated assault in relation to the death of Alex Simmons, Jr.
