Thomson, Georgia – On Friday, April 20, 2018, at approximately 2:33 p.m., McDuffie County 911 Center received a call regarding a shooting at the BP Food Mart, which is located at 418 Jackson Street in Thomson.  When law enforcement arrived they found Darius Whimper, age 25 of Thomson, had been shot.  Whimper was treated on-scene and transported to Augusta University Hospital. 

Shortly thereafter, Mario Antoine Wright, age 31, turned himself in to McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.  Wright is currently in custody and charges against him are pending.  

The investigation is ongoing.  The GBI and McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office are assisting Thomson Police Department with the investigation.
