Atlanta, GA (July 26, 2018) – On Thursday, July 26, 2018, the GBI was requested by the Atlanta Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 12:06 a.m., officers responded to 1003 McDaniel Street, Atlanta, Georgia after receiving a 911 call in reference to suspected drug sales in the area. Upon arrival, officers encountered two subjects. One subject fled the area on foot while the other subject entered a vehicle. The subject inside the vehicle began to flee the area. Early information indicates that the vehicle may have struck one of the officers. That officer discharged their firearm, striking the vehicle. The subject continued to flee the area and the vehicle was located a short distance away on Gardner Street. The subject has not been located at this time. It is unknown if the subject received a gunshot wound. No officers were injured during this incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney for review.
