Officer Involved Shooting Investigation in Atlanta, GA
Atlanta, GA - On Monday, August 6, 2018, at approximately 12:30 p.m., the GBI was requested by the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office to investigate an officer involved shooting that resulted in the death of Levester Taylor, age 39.
Preliminary information indicates that Dekalb County deputies were attempting to serve a felony arrest warrant at 1550 Marietta Road NW, Atlanta, Georgia, Norfolk Southern Railroad. During the service of the arrest warrant, an altercation occurred between Taylor and a deputy. Three Dekalb County deputies fired their weapons, striking Taylor. Taylor died at the scene.
Taylor was armed with a pipe wrench during the altercation. One deputy was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital with a head injury.
The GBI was also requested by the Atlanta Police Department and Norfolk Southern Police Department.
Taylor was an employee of ITS ConGlobal which is contracted by Norfolk Southern Railway.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation and once complete, it will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
