GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Johns Creek
Johns Creek, GA (December 26, 2018) – On Sunday, December 23, 2018, the GBI was requested by the Johns Creek Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting.
Preliminary information indicates that early Sunday at approximately 4:08 am, Johns Creek PD attempted to make a traffic stop on a Ford Fusion for failure to maintain lane. The Ford Fusion initially failed to stop for the officers and vehicle pursuit ensued. The Ford Fusion pulled into a shopping center parking lot located at 5950 State Bridge Road, Johns Creek, GA. As the officers approached the vehicle, the vehicle drove in reverse, striking the patrol vehicle. The officers discharged their weapons towards the vehicle. The vehicle then drove away through the parking lot. The officers returned to their patrol vehicle and pursued the Ford. The driver, identified as Antonio Tinajero, 25 years old, exited the vehicle on foot in a continued attempt to allude the officers. Tinajero was subsequently taken into custody in the shopping center parking lot.
Tinajero was transported to North Fulton Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and after being released was taken into custody by Johns Creek PD.
No officers were injured during the incident.
The GBI will conduct its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
