GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in DeKalb County
DeKalb County, GA (March 14, 2019) – On Wednesday, March 13, 2019, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the DeKalb County Police Department (DKPD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.
Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 2:02 PM, a DKPD motorcycle officer conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle in the parking lot of an Office Depot located at 5064 Memorial Drive, Stone Mountain, GA. A second motorcycle officer also responded to assist with the traffic stop. During the encounter, the driver, identified as Jamarri Danez Williams, age 28, produced a handgun. Both officers discharged their weapons during the incident, shooting Williams. Williams was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition and remains in the hospital. No officers were injured during the incident.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be provided to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
