GBI Conducts Homicide Investigation in Palmetto, Georgia
Palmetto, GA (May 1, 2019) – On Tuesday, April 30, 2019, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Palmetto Police Department to investigate a shooting.
Preliminary information indicates that on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at approximately 9:41 p.m., the Palmetto Police Department received a 911 call in reference to a person being shot at 519 Snowfall Terrace in Palmetto, Coweta County, Georgia. Officers responded to the scene and learned that off-duty Coweta County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Edmond Irvin, 25, had been shot and killed inside of the residence. Danny Long, 17, identified as Deputy Irvin’s cousin, had been located at the residence when Deputy Irvin and Long were in a physical altercation. Long shot Deputy Irvin with a handgun and fled the scene.
Following a search, Long was arrested and transported to the Fayette County Jail. Long has been charged with one (1) count of murder and one (1) count of terroristic threats.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be provided to the Coweta County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
