GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in DeKalb County
Lithonia, GA (August 2, 2019) – On Thursday, August 1, 2019, the DeKalb County Police Department requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to conduct an officer involved shooting investigation.
Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 12:30 a.m., DeKalb County Police responded to a person shot call at 4804 Hodgdon Corners Cove, Lithonia, GA. As officers approached the residence, a subject identified as Otis Dennis Walker, Jr., began firing at the officers. The officers exchanged gunfire with Walker. Officer Derek Nunn was shot and transported to a local hospital. DeKalb SWAT made entry into the residence and discovered Walker was not present. Police also discovered a deceased female within the residence. Walker’s current whereabouts are unknown. DeKalb County Police have obtained an arrest warrant for Walker.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
