GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Clayton County, GA

UPDATE: The identity of the subject in this officer involved shooting is Jimmie Phillips, 68, of Morrow, GA.

Morrow, GA (December 2, 2019) – On Monday, December 2, 2019, at approximately 1:45 a.m., the GBI Atlanta Regional Office was requested by the Clayton County Police Department to conduct an officer involved shooting investigation.

Preliminary information indicates that on Sunday, December 1, at approximately 11:50 p.m., a 911 call was placed from inside the residence of 6405 Katie Lane, Morrow, Clayton County, GA. The call was in reference to a domestic disturbance within the residence. Upon the arrival of the Clayton County Police Department, officers encountered a male armed with a gun threatening to harm others. Officers gave verbal commands to the male but the male did not comply. Officers discharged their firearms, fatally striking the male. The identification of the male subject is pending next of kin notification.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation of the officer involved shooting. Upon completion of the investigation, it will be turned over the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
