GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Clayton County
Clayton County, GA (June 11, 2020) – On Wednesday, June 10, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Clayton County Police Department (CCPD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.
Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 8:07 p.m., a hijacking of a motor vehicle (carjacking) was reported to have occurred at 5758 Old Dixie Highway in Forest Park. The vehicle was stolen at gunpoint by several males. CCPD responded and began searching for the car. At approximately 8:28 p.m., CCPD officers located the vehicle. Officers activated their blue lights and siren, but the vehicle did not stop until it wrecked in the 5800 block of Old Dixie Highway in Forest Park. Three males exited the stolen car and ran from the scene in different directions. CCPD officers pursued them on foot. During the pursuit, one of the subjects reportedly pointed a handgun at the officers. Two officers fired, striking one of the subjects, identified as Marqualo Mulkey, 17, of Forest Park. Additional CCPD officers pursued another subject and during the encounter one CCPD officer fired, striking Quendavious Deonte Redden, 20, also from Forest Park. CCPD officers rendered medical aid on scene. The two males who were shot were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where they remain in stable condition. The third subject, Marquez Mulkey, 17, Forest Park, was arrested by CCPD. All three subjects were in possession of a handgun when apprehended. Charges are pending by the Clayton County Police Department.
No officers were injured during the incident.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once completed, the case will be turned over to the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
