GBI Conducts Missing Person Investigation in Evans County

Evans County, GA (October 6, 2020) - On Wednesday, September 30, 2020, the Evans County Sheriff’s Office requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to assist with a missing person investigation. The missing person was identified as Leon Mayner, age 69, of Claxton, Georgia, who had been missing since July 7, 2020.  The preliminary investigation revealed that Mayner disappeared under suspicious circumstances.

On October 5, 2020, skeletal remains were found in a field across from Lovett Mobile Home Park in Claxton, Georgia.  This was near the location that Mayner was last seen.   Evidence found at the scene indicates that the remains are Leon Mayner.  At this point, the cause of death is unknown.  The remains will be sent to the GBI crime lab for analysis.  Anyone with information is asked to the call the GBI Regional Office in Statesboro at 912-871-1121.
