Homerville, GA (August 10, 2020) – On Saturday, August 8, 2020, the GBI’s Douglas Regional Office was requested by the Homerville Police Department to conduct an aggravated assault investigation.
Preliminary information indicates that on Saturday, August 8, 2020, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the Homerville Police Department was dispatched to shots fired on Beal Street in Homerville, in the area of the Blue Room Club. When officers arrived on scene, a large crowd was gathered with many yelling and screaming at each other. Damage from projectiles were found in the outside wall of a residence and multiple shell casings and bloodstains were found in the roadway. Two individuals were taken to Clinch Memorial Hospital by personal vehicles. One male who was a part of the crowd was cut on the arm, treated at the hospital, and released. One female, who was driving down the street and not a part of the crowd, was shot in the face and was later transported to South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. She has since been released. A third person, a male, was observed with what appeared to be a puncture wound but refused medical treatment.
While investigating, fights continued on a nearby street and required law enforcement from Clinch County Sheriff’s Office, Lanier County Sheriff’s Office, Atkinson County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol, and the GBI to regain order. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources also assisted with crowd control at Clinch Memorial Hospital. No arrests have been made regarding this incident; however, arrests are expected.
The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information or video of the incident is encouraged to contact the GBI Region 4 office at (912) 389-4103 or the Homerville Police Department at (912) 487-5306.
