GBI Investigates Homicide in Sandersville

Sandersville, Georgia (November 24, 2023) – The GBI is investigating a homicide in Sandersville, GA.  On Friday, November 24, 2023, at about 2:30 a.m., the Sandersville Police Department requested the GBI assist in the investigation.  Sandersville Police Department officers and Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies were at the Twin Cities Plaza Shopping Center located on South Harris Street.  There were two separate parties at event centers at the location.   As the parties ended, two fights broke out at about 1:30 a.m.  While officers and deputies were trying to break up the fights and disperse the crowd, someone nearby fired gunshots. Officers discovered Thomas Womble, Jr., age 42, of Sparta, with a gunshot wound.  Womble was taken to the hospital where he died.
